It's that time of year again! If you're looking for a bucket-list-worthy event, this is it. The 52nd New Mexico Balloon Fiesta begins on October 5 and runs through October 13. There's nothing quite like watching hundreds of hot air balloons lift off into the sky. Whether you're a first-time attendee or a Fiesta veteran, this year promises to be better than ever.

Why You Should Attend

The Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta is known worldwide. Watching balloons of all shapes and sizes rise into the morning air is absolutely breathtaking. Plus, October is the perfect time to visit New Mexico, not just for the Fiesta but for the incredible weather too.  Believe it or not, you might even see some fall leaves in the Albuquerque landscape.

Location and Weather

The Balloon Fiesta takes place at Balloon Fiesta Park, located north of downtown Albuquerque. October in New Mexico is known for its cool mornings and warm afternoons—perfect for flying hot air balloons since the cool air in the morning helps the balloons lift off with ease, and the rising sun creates a unique weather phenomenon known as the 'Albuquerque Box.' This fascinating weather pattern allows pilots to take off and land in nearly the same spot, ensuring a smooth ride.

What to Wear

Since temperatures can vary significantly throughout the day, dressing in layers is a must. Mornings can be very chilly, but the temperature will likely warm up as the day goes on. Leave your cute wedges and boots at home and opt for some comfortable footwear. You'll be doing a lot of walking, both around the park and on the field, among the balloons as they inflate and take flight.

Ticket Options

Whether you're a general attendee or looking for a VIP experience, the Fiesta offers a range of ticket options:

• General Admission: For $15, you can experience the fiesta from the main field.
• VIP Gondola Club: For a premium experience, the VIP Gondola Club ($130 per adult) includes a private area with buffet-style meals, drinks, and coffee. Though there's some indoor seating, most is outdoors.
• Chasers Club: For $65 per adult, the Chasers Club provides a VIP-like experience at a more affordable price. Here, you'll be able to enjoy a light breakfast while watching the balloons taking off.

Mass Ascension

One of the Fiesta's most popular events is the Mass Ascension where over 500 balloons launch into the sky simultaneously. This happens multiple times throughout the week and is the highlight of the event for most visitors. You'll be able to walk around the field, stand among the balloons as they inflate, and feel the excitement in the air as they take off.  

Can I Fly in a Balloon?

Yes! You can take a hot air balloon ride at the Fiesta! But, there's only a limited number of balloons that are designated for public rides each day. So, booking your flight with Rainbow Ryders well in advance is a must since spots tend to fill up fast.
